"Who puts your team together?"

You hear a lot about teams these days. You may be on a team at work. Your team may be temporary, just existing long enough to accomplish a task, and then you’re dissolved. Or, your team may be more permanent, i.e., the people you work with in a department or on a shift.

Have you ever wondered who put your team together? Now I’m not talking about who hired your team, but who put your team together? Who makes your team a team, knitting you together in a common purpose?

Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, knows who put his Super Bowl Championship team together. Irsay told 93 million TV viewers who put his team together. In fact, he said that not only does he know who put his team together, he knows who knit them together in a common purpose, "like a family," Irsay stated.
Who is Irsay talking about? God. Irsay gave God the credit for taking the Colts, motivating them to play unselfishly, and knitting them together as a family.

So who puts your team together? Ask God to make a family out of your team as you listen to life and make a life, not just a living today.

"Are you a survivor?"

Tornadoes ripped through portions of Florida in the middle of the night, leaving death and destruction in their wake. Life will never be the same for many, many people.

One of those people was a woman who had moved to that area of Florida from New Orleans. Her previous home was destroyed by the flooding left by Hurricane Katrina. So here’s a woman who has had the misfortune of losing her home not once, but twice.

A television crew interviewed her and she said, "Well, I found a life after Katrina. I’ll have a life after this, too."
Every one of us experiences such times in life. This woman is a testament to the strength of the human spirit that God puts within you. Persistence in the face of negative circumstances is the only pathway to positive results. Such persistence is evidence of your faith that God is with you no matter how hard the winds blow around you.

So as the winds howl around you today, think of this woman’s faith and have a life as you listen to life.

"What really matters?"

I watched something very significant happen following the Super Bowl. Hype is the name of the game with the Super Bowl. It’s just about overtaken the game itself. This year, one of the storylines you heard constantly was the importance of this game because for the very first time in the history of the NFL, two African-American head coaches led their players. And that really is significant because prior to Super Bowl 41, no African-American coach had led a team.

One of those head coaches, Tony Dungy, in accepting the championship trophy after his team won, said something very interesting and very true. He said something like, "A lot of people have made a big deal out of Lovie Smith and I being African-American coaches for the first time in this game. But more important than that is that Lovie and I both believe in God and lead our teams as God leads us."

Dungy is right. What’s on the inside of you—your spirit—matters more than what’s on the outside. Listen to life today and lead out of your spirit like Tony Dungy does.

"What's important to you?"

You heard all about the devastating tornadoes in Florida earlier this month. The storms struck in the middle of the night, killing persons and destroying homes and even churches.

Or, did it destroy homes and churches? Actually, the destructive force of these storms leveled houses and buildings. As one minister told Lester Holt of the Today Show, "Lester, the church isn’t a building. The church is the people of God. We’ll have church here this Sunday," he said, "because we’ll meet God here."

Homes and churches and companies and schools are at their heart and soul about relationships. They’re about people who are family together, who worship and serve God together, who work toward a common goal together, and who learn together. These communities of people, purpose, passion, and personal growth form because of relationships put together by God. The rest is just stuff. And relationships are what’s most important as you listen to life today and make a life, not just a living.

"Got love?"

I opened my email that morning as soon as I arrived in my office, just like I do each morning. I removed the spam—yes, I get it, too—and looked down through the list. I recognized our younger daughter’s email address on one of them so I scrolled down and opened hers first.

The message announced that I had an e-greeting card to open. So I clicked on the link and opened it. There was the cutest picture of a yellow Lab puppy like the ones we raise and a kitten, their noses touching. And someone had drawn in some hearts between them. The caption read, "Puppy Love."

And our daughter wrote in, "Daddy, I know it’s not Valentine’s yet, but I couldn’t resist sending this to you. Love and kisses," and her name.

I wrote her back and said, "Thank you, sweetheart! It’s never too early to send love. Love and kisses, Daddy."
And it isn’t. Nor is it ever too late. Yea, I know Valentine’s is past for this year, but send someone love today. God gives it to you 365 days a year, so share it real often as you listen to life and make a life, not just a living.
