"What does a mother do anyway?"

A man came home from work to find total chaos in his house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers all over the front yard.

When he walked in, a lamp had been knocked over, the TV was on, and the family room had toys and clothes everywhere. Dishes filled the kitchen sink, dog food was on the floor, and a broken glass was under the table.
He ran upstairs looking for his wife.

He was worried that something serious had happened. He found her in the bed in her pajamas, reading. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her and asked, "What happened here today?" She just smiled and said, "You know every day when you come home from work and ask me what in the world I did today?

Well, today I didn't do it."

Thank your mother this weekend for everything she does for you.

"What did your mother say?"

What are some things you just can’t imagine your mother ever saying? Would your mother ever say, “Let’s eat dessert first tonight and leave off the broccoli, okay?”

Or, “How on earth can you see the TV sitting so far back? Move up closer.”

Or, “Sure, sweetheart, bring home any dog you want to and I’ll be more than happy to take care of him for you.”

Would your mother ever say something like, “Well, if Laura’s mother said it’s okay by her, then of course you can go. That’s good enough for me!”

Or, “You know, curfew is just kind of a guideline, a target time to shoot for. Don’t get too hung up on it. This is a home, not a prison.”

Or, “Look, how many times do I have to tell you? When you don’t have a tissue, just use your sleeve.”

There are some things you can’t imagine your mother saying. I guess that’s what makes your mother the woman you love.

"How do you talk to your child?"

Can you imagine the mother of Christopher Columbus saying, “I don’t care what you’ve discovered, you still could have written!”

Or, George Washington’s mother saying, “The next time I catch you throwing money across the Potomac, you can kiss your allowance good-bye!”

Or, Thomas Edison’s mother saying, “Of course I’m proud you invented the electric light bulb. Now turn it off and go to sleep!”

Do you think that Albert Einstein’s mom ever said, “Can’t you do something with your hair?”

Or, Michelangelo’s mother said, “Can’t you just paint on the walls like other children? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get that stuff off the ceiling?”

Or, Abraham Lincoln’s mom said, “What’s with the stovepipe hat? Just wear a baseball cap like the other kids!”

You just never know who your child will grow up to be, do you? Talk to your child like you want to be talked to as you listen to life and make a life at home.

"Are you as generous as a 10-year old boy?"

A friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer and took chemotherapy and his hair came out. So he shaved what little hair remained, making him completely bald, like Michael Jordan.

Well, my friend’s brother-in-law shaved his head completely in sympathy for my friend, to show his support. The brother-in-law went skiing and asked a ten-year-old neighborhood boy to watch his dogs while he was gone. And he promised to pay him.

When the brother-in-law got back, he thanked the kid for watching his dogs and tried to hand him a $10 bill. “No, I can’t take it,” the boy said. “My parents did most of the work. By the way, why did you shave your head?”

The brother-in-law explained the situation and the ten-year-old neighborhood boy said, “Oh, well, give my $10 to the American Cancer Society in honor of him.”

I’d say that ten-year-old boy knows how to make a life, not just a living by listening to life today for what God has to say, wouldn’t you?

"Life is tough, isn't it?"

Keeping on with life is tough sometimes, isn’t it? Jeff Gordon and the Hendrick Motorsports team had a tough time last month going to Martinsville Speedway. Ten family members and friends died in a helicopter crash last October coming to the fall race there.

So when Gordon had right front tire problems, pitted on a green flag, and found himself three laps down, you can understand how easy it would have been for him to just give up. But he didn’t. Gordon made up the laps, fought to lead the race on lap 465, and never looked back. It was a sweet victory for the team.
“There’s something special about this place and we lost so many incredible people out of this
organization and the racing community. I think it’s only fitting for us to get this victory today,” Gordon said. “I know how much it means to Rick Hendrick and his family and all those other families. It means a lot to this race team.”

Life is really tough sometimes, but by persevering and asking God for help, you really can make it to victory lane.
