"Do you know Where God is?"

Two little brothers, Johnny and Sammy, were always getting into trouble. Well, the boys’ mother decided they needed straightening out and asked a local minister if he would speak to her boys. He agreed but only if he could see the brothers separately.

So the mother sent Johnny in first to see the minister who sat Johnny down and asked, "Where is God?" Johnny just sat there wide-eyed, unable to speak. Again, the pastor asked even louder as he shook his finger in Johnny’s face, "Where is God?"

Johnny ran from the room all the way home, and locked himself in his bedroom. His brother, Sammy, knocked on the bedroom door and said, "Johnny, what happened?" Johnny opened the door and said, "God is missing and they think we stole him."

Do you know where God is? Life gets hard sometimes and it seems like someone stole God, doesn’t it?
Just look in your heart for God when life gets hard and make a life, not just a living.

"Do the things you worry about ever come true?"

I guess we all worry about something at some time or another, don’t we? We worry about our children and our parents, our jobs and our retirement, our health and our friends’ health.

That reminds me of a New York real estate mogul who sat in his Life Coach’s office, wringing his hands over the sorry state of the economy. The Life Coach suggested several strategies to replace worrying, and moving forward with his mission in life, the entrepreneur looked into his Coach’s eyes and said firmly, "Don't tell me worry does no good. The things I worry about never come true."

I believe it was Mark Twain who said, "I’ve had some terrible experiences in my life, some of which actually happened."

When you find yourself worrying today, remind yourself that, like this man, the things you worry about never come true. So instead of worrying, start listening to life and making a life, not just a living today, and watch all of the wonderful things you’re listening for come true.

"Do you live like Rick?"

It’s been about a little over five years now since the Columbia space shuttle disaster. Last month NASA remembered the crew who died in that mission.

Rick Husbands was the shuttle commander. Just before the crew boarded the space shuttle, Rick stopped them all and prayed. NASA workers commented that in all their years of working there, they had never seen a commander pray with his crew. At T minus 2 before takeoff, a NASA control person commented that it was a perfect day for launch and Rick said, "God has given us a beautiful day." During the mission, Husbands talked about how awesome God’s creation was as he saw it out of the space shuttle window.

Rick left a recorded devotional video for both of his children for each of the 17 days he would be gone. That was 34 videos he recorded so his children wouldn’t miss their daily devotions with their daddy.

Sure, what happened was a tragedy, but Rick Husbands sure knew how to live, didn’t he?

Live like Rick and make a life with every minute you have today.

"Where do you put your weight down?"

Did you hear about the man who took his first airplane ride? He didn't really want to go, but was finally persuaded to try it. Scared to death, he got in the plane. The pilot took off, circled the field and landed safely. Someone asked him, "Well, now that wasn't so bad, was it?"

And the man said, "I’ll tell you this much. I never did put my full weight down in that thing!"

I can relate with that guy, can’t you? There are lots of times that I’m not really sure about trusting something new. And there are other times when I’m just afraid of stepping out and trying it.

But when I’m afraid, that’s when I listen to life. Listening to life means putting your full weight down on God even when you’re afraid of something and don’t trust it. Listening to life means actually anchoring yourself to God and letting God carry you around the field of life and bring you safely back.

So listen to life today and make a life, not just a living by putting all the weight of your life in God’s hands.

"Do you ever have trouble communicating with God?"

A couple visited a lawyer about getting a divorce. And the lawyer asks the husband, "Do you have grounds?"
"We have about an acre and a half," says the husband.

"No, that’s not what I mean," says the lawyer. "Do you have a grudge?"

"No," says the husband, "we have an oversized carport."

"No, that’s not what I mean," says the lawyer and he changes his approach. "OK, does she beat you up?"

"Nope, I’m the first one up every morning," the husband says.

"So why do you want a divorce?" the lawyer asks in desperation.

"I don’t," the husband says. "My wife does. She says we have trouble communicating."

Do you ever have trouble communicating with your spouse or coworker or God? The key to excellent communication is listening first. Ask, "What do you want to say to me?"

Then listen to your life very carefully and watch your trouble go away as you make a life, not just a living today.
