"Do you smell?"
Isn’t it amazing how certain smells trigger your memory? You smell a brand of lotion and you remember your mother’s hands. You smell an after shave and think of your father hugging you. You smell coffee brewing and relive an early morning with someone special.
I was doing some life coaching with a woman recently. She talked about her grandmother’s furniture, specifically that she has her grandmother’s dining room suite including her buffet. It’s really beautiful furniture, she said, but that’s not the best part of having it in her home.
She remembers her grandmother baking yeast rolls. Her grandmother was an excellent cook generally, but her signature dish was her yeast rolls. Evidently she made them quite often, because every time my friend opens the long drawer in the buffet, she smells her grandmother’s yeast rolls. And that, she says, is the best part of having her grandmother’s dining room furniture.
As you listen to life and make a life, not just a living today, make sure you slow down long enough to smell and remember the good times God gives you.
